Didn’t work for me: Percy Jackson – Sea of Monsters

on Percy Jackson – Sea of Monsters
I went into Percy Jackson – Sea of Monsters with pretty normal expectations and it surprised me. The middle drags and repeats the same tension a bit too long. The atmosphere is the standout — it’s easy to sink into. Not perfect, but it did enough to keep me turning pages.

Didn’t work for me: Sunrise on the Reaping

⚠️ Spoilers: minor plot detail mentioned below. I went into Sunrise on the Reaping with pretty normal expectations and it surprised me. The ending resolves fast compared to how much it builds up. There’s a specific turning point late in the book that changes the tone hard — that moment will make or break it for you. Overall, I’d recommend it to the right reader.

The Hunger Games has a strong core idea — the execution mostly works. Characters feel distinct, and the dialogue reads naturally. Overall, I’d recommend it to the right reader.

Mixed feelings: The Priory of the Orange Tree

on The Priory of the Orange Tree
Mixed feelings on The Priory of the Orange Tree, but I can see why people love it. There are a few scenes that genuinely hit emotionally. The middle drags and repeats the same tension a bit too long. I’d still read more from this author even with the flaws.

Really enjoyed: The Witches

Mixed feelings on The Witches, but I can see why people love it. Characters feel distinct, and the dialogue reads naturally. Overall, I’d recommend it to the right reader.

Mixed feelings: We Were Liars

on We Were Liars
Mixed feelings on We Were Liars, but I can see why people love it. The pacing stays moving and the chapters end on good beats. A couple of sections could have been trimmed without losing anything. Not perfect, but it did enough to keep me turning pages.
