Animal Death
Marley & Me is the heart-warming and unforgettable story of a family in the making and the wondrously neurotic dog who taught them what really matters in life.
John and Jenny were young and deeply in love, with a perfect little house and not a care in the world. Then they brought home Marley, a wiggly yellow furball of a puppy. Life would never be the same.
Marley quickly grew into an uncontrollable 44-kilogram steamroller of a Labrador retriever. Expelled from obedience school, even the tranquillisers prescribed by the vet couldn’t stop him.
Yet through the chaos and the hilarity he won hearts and remained a steadfast model of devotion to his family, even when they were at their wits’ end. Unconditional love, they would learn, comes in many forms.

Didn’t work for me: Marley & Me: Life and love with the world’s worst dog
⚠️ Spoilers: minor plot detail mentioned below. Mixed feelings on Marley & Me: Life and love with the world’s worst dog, but I can see why people love it. A couple of sections could have been trimmed without losing anything. The atmosphere is the standout — it’s easy to sink into. There’s a specific turning point late in the book that changes the tone hard — that moment will make or break it for you. Overall, I’d recommend it to the right reader.

Not for me: Marley & Me: Life and love with the world’s worst dog
I went into Marley & Me: Life and love with the world’s worst dog with pretty normal expectations and it surprised me. The ending resolves fast compared to how much it builds up. Not perfect, but it did enough to keep me turning pages.
